This Month’s Theme
“Be a Fountain and Not a Drain”
This theme reminds us that every day, we are either pouring life into others or pulling it out of them. A fountain refreshes, gives, encourages, and uplifts. A drain takes, empties, and pulls others down. God is calling us to be vessels of His love, grace, and hope – even if we live behind bars or fences. Through our words, attitudes, and actions, we can bring peace instead of chaos, light instead of darkness, and life instead of discouragement. No matter our past, we can choose to be a source of spiritual strength and encouragement to those around us. Are we being more of a Giver or a Taker? Are you a Fountain or a Drain?
The Scriptures chosen to go along with this theme are:
- John 7:38 (ESV)
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”- When we believe in Jesus, He makes us a source of life, not destruction.
- Proverbs 11:25 (ESV)
“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”- A fountain refreshes others, and God promises to refresh us, too.
- James 3:10-11 (ESV)
“From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?”- What comes out of us matters. A fountain produces life, not harm.
- Isaiah 58:11 (ESV)
“And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”- Even in prison, God can make us a source of life and strength to others.
- Galatians 6:9-10 (ESV)
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”- Being a fountain means consistently doing good, even when it’s hard.
